Just learned today about Pat's passing! Would like to send condolences and prayers out to his family!
Had helped Pat with the powerplant in his '69 roadrunner back in 1986, really a true "gentleman". I met both his sons at the time also!

Me and Cliff are so saddened by the loss of this kind and generous man. I loved all of his stories while I would cut his hair.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Patrick's family, Edeltraud, Patrick, Brian and Michelle.
Patrick was a one of a kind. A very generous and genuine man who had a heart of gold.
I was fortunate to know him as a donor to College of the Desert Foundation and many desert charities.
He will be sorely missed.

One of the great, full of life people whom I had the honor of getting to know here in the Coachella Valley. You will be missed.

Das Schönste,
was ein Mensch hinterlassen kann,
ist ein Lächeln im Gesicht derjenigen,
die an Ihn denken.
Danke dass ich Dich kennen lernen durfte
herzlichen Dank für alles
in silent remembrance

So very, very sorry to get the news of Patrick's death. He and I go way, way back to our freshman dormitory at Deerfield in the Fall of 1949 - sixty-seven years ago. Neither of us was phi beta kappa so we were in a lot of small classes together as well as a dormitory. We were both at college in Providence in the '50s, he at PC and I at Brown so we occasionally did the town together! Pat was a legend on the Cross Country track at Deerfield and in my four years there I never saw him beaten. And that's how he earned his nickname The Flying Irishman. Sadly The Flying Irishman has won his last race, and we his Deerfield Academy Class of 1953 will never, ever forget our classmate Patrick. Deepest love and sympathy to you, Edeltraud, and your whole family from the Class of 1953 at Deerfield Academy - Hugh R. Smith

Patrick Michael McCarthy, AKA ,The Flying Irishman Deerfield Academy Class of 1953.
My good friend, what a ride we had during those formative years. We beat all the odds makers and made it past 80+. I sent a text to God requesting that he take good care of you, as you have given so much, to so many, for the support of needy projects and institutions. You will be sorely missed by all those of us who cherished your deep friendship. My good friend, may you rest in peace, I'll catch you on the flip side.
. . .and to the McCarthy family, Edeltraud, Michele, Patrick, and Brian, our thoughts and prayers go out to you in the celebration of the life of a wonderful caring sole.

Ruhe in Frieden, Patrick -
Rest in Peace.

One day I saw Patrick on the street driving his amazing 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner convertible. I flagged him down and told him I was the founder and coordinator of the Hot Desert Mopars. Patrick started attending our meets with his beautiful Mopar, sporting a stuffed roadrunner on the windshield! He would say "It passes everything but the gas station..." He came to many of our meets and made friends with our fun little group. He brought a lot to the table - between his fun personality and his gorgeous Roadrunner. It was great seeing him at El Paseo Cruise Night as well.
Deepest condolences to Edie and his family and friends. Patrick will be missed for sure.
