James F. Beck was born to Henry and Margaret Beck on December 24, 1922 in Pomona California and entered into eternal rest on December 9, 2016.
He is survived by his son, James C. and daughter in law, Debra J. Beck, his brother Lawrence E. and sister Margaret Brown. James has four grandchildren, Shauna Dickerson, Jessica and her husband Brendon Sleanbeck, Brian and his wife Claudia Beck, Lisa Beck and two great grandchildren, Danillo and Josiah Dickerson.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Joan Mary Beck.
James was an Ensign in the US Navy and served active duty for two years and eight years in the US Navy reserves. He earned the World War II Victory Medal.
He graduated from Artesia Elementary School in 1936, Excelsior High School in 1940 and the University of California Berkley in 1949.
Married Joan Mary DesJardins in 1946 at the Saint Phillip the Apostle Church in Pasadena CA. They had two chosen children, James Christian and Patricia Ann.
James was employed by the California office of the State Architect for 9 years and 6 years as an analyst in Project Management. He was then employed for 19 years at the UC system of Office of the Chancellor. He retired in 1986.
James lived in La Habra CA for 33 years attending Catholic Mass at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish.
He then moved to Indio California in 1992 while attending the St. Francis of Assisi Church of La Quinta Parish.
James was a very generous benefactor to many charities in the region and his presence will be missed by many. He had a large group of best friends he genuinely enjoyed paling around with.
James did Catholic Charity volunteer work in and around Indio California.
Mass of Christian burial will be conducted by Father Larry Beck, nephew of James Beck at the Saint Francis parish church in La Quinta CA.
Services on January 19 at 10AM, reception and internment to follow.
