Juanita L. Savage passed away at the Mountain View Residential Care in La Quinta, CA on June 4, 2015. She was born September 2, 1932 in Iantha, Missouri. Her parents were Ryan and Irene Beck. After various moves her family settled in Fresno, CA, where she graduated from Roosevelt High School and Fresno State College with an Education major. Her teaching career included schools in Fresno, Castro Valley and Cochran Avenue Baptist Day School in Los Angeles. The last fifteen years of her career were with Special Emotionally Disturbed classes for Riverside County.
As a Pastor's wife she was deeply involved in church life while at First Baptist Church of North Hollywood, Cochran Avenue Baptist Church of Los Angeles and University Baptist Church of Palm Desert. She served a term as President of the American Baptist Women's auxiliary of the American Baptist Churches of the Pacific Southwest.
She was a member of the California Retired Teachers Association, the Palm Desert Optimist Club and the Joslyn Singers. During this past year she participated in the Eisenhower Five Star program for Alzheimer's clients.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, the Rev. Ken Savage, two daughters; Julie Ellson of Sunnyvale, CA and Jenny Sterk of Camp Zama, Japan. Her sister is Edythe Heinrichs of Redding, CA. A daughter, Connie LeNoir predeceased her. Grandchildren are Marie Campbell, Kevin and Bryan LeNoir, Ian and Braden Sterk, and a great grandson, Blake Campbell.
A memorial service will be held at Cornerstone Covenant Church,
73-605 Dinah Shore Drive, Palm Desert, Saturday, June 20, 11 a.m. to which all friends are invited.
