Donald Bane Hiatt
July 13, 1924 - August 11, 2017
Donald Bane Hiatt was born on July 13, 1924, in Santa Clara, California to Elwood and Berniece (Bane) Hiatt. After graduating from Santa Clara High School, he enlisted in the Army Airforce and served as a pilot from 1942 to 1945. He returned home and joined the family construction business, Hiatt Brothers. Later he formed Hiatt and Zolezzi Construction Company specializing in commercial and apartment construction. During this time, he resided in Los Gatos, California.
In 1988, he married Linda Patton at Moorten Gardens in Palm Springs California. Being retired, he became involved in many school projects at Carden El Encanto School in Santa Clara, where Linda taught, building scenery for plays and chaperoning many field trips including trips to Washington D.C.
In 1999 the couple moved to Palm Springs, California. Don readily volunteered at St. Theresa School, including chaperoning field trips. In 2004, on a trip to Washington D.C. the students recognized Don at the World War II Memorial for his service to his country.
Don was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion and Mizell Senior Center.
Don went home to be with our Lord on August 11, 2017. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Robert, Leroy and Kenneth. He is survived by his wife Linda Patton-Hiatt (Palm Springs, CA), nephews Nicholas Patton (Strongsville, Ohio) and Branton Nestor (Huntington Beach CA), a niece Lois Nestor (Huntington Beach, CA), brother and sister in-laws, Dr. Michael Nestor and Dr. Diana Patton (Huntington Beach, CA).
A military burial service will be held on Thursday, August 24th at 11:15 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in Don's name be made to the Mizell Senior Center Meals on Wheels Program.
